Nottingham Breast Institute
Nottingham, United Kingdom
As part of the NHS Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, the Nottingham Breast Institute provides treatment and support to approximately 35,000 patients annually. The Institute offers diagnostic and screening clinics, treatment, and follow-up services.
The Institute’s breast screening waiting room has been completely renovated following efforts by the Nottingham Hospitals Charity. Donations from fundraising events and the local community have transformed a typical medical waiting room into a calming space with new artwork, décor and furniture.
The new Thorlux lighting installation makes the room feel welcoming and open. Primary lighting comes from a grid of Flexview recessed luminaires, providing energy-efficient, low-glare illumination combined with an edge-lit ‘skylight’ graphic. These create an impression of spaciousness in the room whilst maintaining excellent light distribution. Surface-mounted Flexbar linear luminaires at the edges of the ceiling highlight doorways and wall art, providing visual contrast and texture.
The renovated waiting room officially opened in February 2023, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by staff and fundraisers. To learn more about the work of the Nottingham Hospitals Charity, please visit their website.
