The building has won the Guardian National University Award for "Buildings that Inspire".
Thorlux proposed the use of high efficiency LED luminaires combined with SmartScan energy saving controls. Projects utilising the Thorlux SmartScan System can frequently benefit from energy savings in excess of 70% when compared with conventional technology.
In the office areas 600 x 600 Hyline luminiares have been installed. The Hyline is an air handling low-glare recessed luminaire that has been designed from the outset to be easily tailored to suit the myriad of ceiling types offered. The homogeneously lit fire-retardant nanoprism diffuser aids compliance with LG7 and the concealed air-handling vents allow airflow of up to 40 litres per second without any loss of performance.
IP66 Realta luminaires were chosen for the exterior walls. The Realta is a high performance luminaire with a choice of high efficiency glass or polycarbonate refractor designed to minimise light pollution and energy consumption.
